Michael (Mike) Leroy Pierce departed this world peacefully in his home after an honorable & valiant fight with cancer on Saturday evening, March 18, 2023.
Mike was born in Greensboro, NC on February 14, 1953 to Mary Melvin Pierce & James Arthur Pierce and was the youngest of two boys. Mike spent his childhood developing relationships that would last a lifetime.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1971 - 1980 and the Vietnam War where he worked rescue missions and jumped out of perfectly good airplanes, as his brother often teased him.
Mike loved music and performed in many choral productions, plays, and with the Oral Roberts University World Singers as well as becoming a choir director for Immanuel Baptist Church in Greensboro for a number of years.
You could find Mike spending his down time on the beach or fishing just about anywhere and most definitely enjoying his share of good food. He had an affinity for Yum Yum’s hot dogs, Stamey’s Barbeque, seafood, and most any family style meal spent together making memories.
He had a quiet way about him and a quick wit that could have you in giggles for hours. He loved his family and more than anything, enjoyed his time making memories with them.
Mike is survived by his wife, Tammy Pierce, his brother, David Pierce (June), his children Paula Campbell (Corey Mitchell), Beth Maerlender (Christopher), & Christopher Pierce (Krystal), Andrea Kestner (Dennis), & Phillip Ball (Jillian) & 10 Grandchildren (Alex, Faith, Avery, Angel, Reagan, Eli, Kennedy, Luke, Christian, Jonah) & 1 Great-Grandchild (Beau Weston). Joe Melvin (Betty) is his only surviving uncle. Special friends & family Dan Vaughan, Fred Best, Jeff Whaley, Fran Reece, and many many others. Preceding him to heaven were his mother and father, and many aunts, uncles, & cousins, including Paul & Carmal Melvin who had a great influence on his upbringing, and his great friend and first cousin, Martha Yates.
Flowers will be accepted at Lawndale Baptist Church or at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s honor to American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, or AuthoraCare of Greensboro Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro on Sunday, March 26, 2023 @ 2 PM with a gathering to follow.
