Hugh Eugene Fewell

September 14, 1951 ~ May 18, 2020 (age 68)


Hugh Eugene Fewell, 68 passed away Monday, May 18, 2020 at Beacon Place Hospice and Palliative Care.  Hugh Eugene was born September 14, 1951 in Greensboro, NC to the late Chester Fewell and Cora Brooks Fewell.  He was preceded in death by his brother Private 1st Class Chester Decatur Fewell.  Hugh Eugene, affectionately known as “Eugene” was a graduate of Page High School and Guilford Technical Community College formerly known as (GTI, Guilford Technical Institute) where he earned his degree in furniture making and upholstery.  He was known throughout the state as the “Upholstery Doctor” where he brought old and damaged furniture back to life. 

Eugene was a faithful and long- time member of the East Market Street SDA Church where he held various positions such as Head Usher, Pathfinder Leader, Coach and Safety Coordinator.  He was also a supporter of the Light of Life Salvation Ministries, Men of Steel Mentoring Program and an avid participant and counselor with Fit 4 You in Pine Forge, PA.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife Christine Crawford Fewell of 9 years, 1 son Lt. Colonel Hughie Eugene Fewell, Jr. of South Korea, and 1 daughter, Tonya Fewell (Chris) of Birmingham, AL.  He is also survived by 4 sisters Marjorie Thomas (James) Piedmont, SC; Joyce Parker (Willie) Elkton, MD; Oclivery Jones (David) Denton, MD; Helen Long (Arthur), and Joyce LaBorde (Michael) both of Greensboro, NC.   4 grandchildren: Briana, Evan, Grace and Hughie Eugene, III (Tre), a host of nieces and nephews as well as extended family. He will be greatly missed by all.

A private interment will be held with family and a memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service of Greensboro NC.
