Dr. Nathan Witherspoon was born on January 5, 1939 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to David and Plumie Witherspoon. He was called to heaven on June 5, 2021.
Nathans accolades include graduating from: W W Holding Technical Institution, UNC Greensboro, UNC Chapel Hill, and holds a Ph.D. from Walden University. He has been a teacher, social worker, college professor, and an Administrator. Nathan put his heart and soul into everything he touched; and gained great satisfaction from his work. He was well known for working at Greensboro Urban Ministry until his health failed in 2010.
Nathan is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Sandra J. Witherspoon, sons; Nathan Witherspoon Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii and William Witherspoon (Angela) of Greensboro, North Carolina, a grandson; Montgomery Armstrong of High Point, North Carolina, three sisters; Virginia Abbitt of Hyattsville, Maryland, Phyllis and Audrey Witherspoon, both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, four sisters-in-law’s; Jacqueline Witherspoon Nunn and Deborah Witherspoon of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Joanne Maye (James) and Clara Brown (Melvis) both of Greensboro, North Carolina, along with several nieces and nephews. Also, special friends; Charles Stevenson, Randall Smart, and James Rice. Special caregivers at Ashton Health and Rehab; his girlfriend, Diane Catoe, Zena Herring, Frances Honeycutt, Tasha Giles, Vonee Boatwright, Katina Walker, Billie Pendleton, and many more.
Nathan is preceded in death by his parents, David and Plumie Witherspoon, three brothers; Willie, David Jr., and Thurmond Witherspoon, two sisters; Ruth Witherspoon and Gwendolyn W. Watts, two brothers-in-law’s; Royal Abbitt and Robert Watts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 2 PM at Triad Cremation and Funeral Service, 2110 Veasley Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.
