Obituary
Cleo Delores Layne, 90, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at her home in Greensboro, NC. Cleo was born on December 27, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Willie Angelo Atkins and Luna Southerland Atkins.
She received her education in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from Kensington High School. She later took a few classes at Temple University. Cleo spent her career, for many years, with the Social Security Administration.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Wayland Temple Baptist Church where she was a member of several choirs.
Those who knew Cleo were very familiar with her love of Crypto Grams and word puzzles. Whenever someone would visit her, she was usually found diligently working on one.
Cleo is survived by her four children, Gail Torres (Darrell), Greensboro, NC, Charles Lawrence, Jr. (Annette), Philadelphia, PA, Joy D. Lewis, Greensboro, NC and Richard R. Lewis, III; brother, Angelo Atkins, Philadelphia, PA; three grandchildren, Adam Washington III, Greensboro, NC, Dwayne Washington (Sandy Marie), Hawthorne, CA and Stephanie Washington (Shane), Greensboro, NC; six great-grandchildren, DaRon, Aliyah, Titus, Solomon, Jebriel, and ShaShayne Washington, all of Greensboro, NC.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Atkins and Luna Dixon.
