William V. ‘Bill’ Johnson, 88, of Pleasant Garden, died on Sunday after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was a master barber for seven decades and the barber-owner of the Pleasant Garden Barber Shop. A former boxer, he enjoyed coaching boxing and trained a number of champions.
Born, raised and a long-time resident of Evansville, Indiana, the beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather is survived by three daughters, two of whom were at his bedside at his passing, seven granddaughters, one grandson and four great granddaughters. Another grandchild is due in July.
It was teasingly said that ‘Bill Johnson doesn’t just cut hair, he talks it off.’ Known for his humor, optimism and ever-flowing conversation, Bill will be greatly missed by friends and family. A private memorial in his honor will be held by daughters Jane Super of Greensboro and Joy Olenchalk of Livermore, CA. Condolences may be sent to 5305 Highstream Ct., Greensboro, NC 27407. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winston-Salem Ambassadors, a charity directed by his granddaughter, or any worthy charity.
