Mrs. Silvana Ebbli Penvose, 87, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 in her home which she shared with her husband of 65 years, Raymond Penvose. She was born in Cremona, Italy in 1931.
Her childhood was spent on the beautiful Isle of Elba, where she shared many adventures and made wonderful memories with her three sisters, who have all preceded her in death. Her family was ordered to return to the mainland at the start of World War II, where they settled in the small town of Annico, northern Italy. Silvana shared many stories of the horrors of war and what it was like to be a young woman living during those years with daily bombings and death all around her town. The war helped form the amazing, strong and resilient woman she became. Silvana was strikingly beautiful, talented and never met a stranger. She was fluent in 5 languages and met her husband, Ray Penvose, while she was studying German in Heidelberg, Germany. She embraced her life as a career Army wife and enjoyed meeting people and traveling around the world. Her time spent with Sophia Loren, living next to Lyndon B. Johnson and being invited to their dinner parties are just a few of the wonderful stories she shared. Her favorite story was of dancing with a foreign diplomat and knocking off his toupee. Silvana had many careers in her life; she was a commercial weaver, teacher, model, wedding coordinator, and a cosmetologist. She also volunteered in many capacities throughout her life. She was never one to be idle, she loved to knit and was an amazing dressmaker and seamstress. She loved to cook and make pasta. Every Christmas she would gift all her friends and neighbors with it. Silvana was breast cancer survivor in her early years and although she and Ray were never blessed with children of their own they touched the lives of many children and families. Silvana loved children, every child that was born in her large circle of family and friends received a hand knitted blanket. While visiting Greensboro, Silvana fell in loved with the town and the people. In 1969, when Ray retired as an Army officer, they moved to Greensboro and became active in many aspects of the community she loved and that loved her. She fought a valiant battle these past two years and with the love and support of her dear Raymond she continued to enjoy a wonderful life until the very end. She was good, kind, honest and a mother to so many. She loved her husband with the same passion she loved life.
Silvana is survived by her husband, Ray Penvose; a nephew in Italy; and many, many friends and "adopted" family.
Her wishes were to be cremated, she chose not to have a viewing.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
