Robert “Bob” Parson Hilemn, 78, passed away on May 14, 2018, at his residence. Bob was born on September 30, 1939, to the late Dr. Henry and Dorothy Hilemn in Greensboro and attended Greensboro High School as well as served in the National Guard. Bob began his professional career with his brothers at Hilemn Laboratories before branching out on his own as owner and operator of Sterling Sign Corp for over 45 years before retiring. During his 45 year career, Bob’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to other successful businesses: New Bodies fitness center, DK Holligan’s restaurant, and Hilemn Properties. When Bob was not working, he cherished spending time with his family on the lake, in the mountains, or at the beach. He loved watching people enjoying themselves at his home on the lake, where he and his wife Brenda hosted numerous parties ranging from weddings, graduations, anniversaries, and birthdays. Bob was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Studenski, Mary Schott, and brothers, Henry Hal Hilemn, Jr., Charles (Chuck) R. Hilemn and wife Jackie Hilemn, and nephew Gus Alsmeyer.
Surviving siblings are sisters, Helen Alsmeyer of Maryland, Joanna Hilemn of Greensboro, and brother Edward Hilemn of Pennsylvania. Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years Brenda Greene Hilemn and 5 children: Keelie Ryan and fiancé Bill Strickland of Rocky Mount, Terry Hutchison and wife Nanette of Greensboro, Carroll Nance and husband Wayne of Greensboro, Heidi Hilemn of Pinehurst, and Jason Hilemn and wife Abby of High Point. Also surviving are his eleven grandchildren: Brandon, Katy, Graham, Madison, Elizabeth, Joseph, Molly Grace, Ellie, Lacy, and Conleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to the physician team of Dr. Hank Smith, Dr. Greg Taylor, Dr. Dan Bensimon, and their staff for taking care of Bob over the years. A special thank you to Christina Draper for faithfully helping the Hilemn family during this time. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1304 Merritt Dr. Greensboro, NC 27407. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 following the celebration of life service in the fellowship hall.
