Mark Frederic SandbankMay 25, 1946 ~ November 22, 2017 (age 71)
Mark Frederic Sandbank, age 71, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, November 22 at his home surrounded by family. Several days’ of visits from friends, family, and loved ones preceded his passing, which was peaceful.
Mark was born on May 25, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, and he remained a Dodgers fan throughout his life. The son of Arthur and Leah Sandbank and the oldest of four children, he moved with his family to Kinston, NC at an early age. Mark was a man with bottomless appetite for companionable walks around the neighborhood park, a charitable soul who loved where he lived and with whom he shared his life. A surpassingly committed husband and father, Mark delighted in nothing so much as showering his children, and later his grandchildren, with his gentleness and ever-indulgent good humor.
Mark is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ellen Sandbank, his three children, Matthew (Paige), Maggie (George) and Leah Drew (Brendan), three grandchildren, Apolline, Millie and Max, and two siblings Erica Terry and Steven Sandbank.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, at Starmount Country Club from 12:00 to 2:00. Family, friends, and those whose lives Mark touched are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, Mark’s family requests that memorials be made to BeTheMatch.com. On Mark’s behalf and their own, his family also gives thanks to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at UNC-Chapel Hill, which for the past three years provided him with wonderful care. Arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel of Greensboro NC.
