Laura Anthony Justus Judge

Laura Anthony Justus Judge, 89, of Burlington, NC passed away peacefully at Twin Lakes Community on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Laura was born September 14, 1928 in Havre de Grace, MD and grew up in Aberdeen, MD. She earned her B.A. degree in English in 1949 from Washington College in Chestertown, MD and was a 3rd grade elementary school teacher for several years before becoming a full-time housewife and mother. During that time, she enrolled in graduate courses in Library Science at the University of Maryland, College Park and Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD. She became a media specialist in two elementary schools, later becoming an adjunct faculty member at Prince George’s Community College, Largo, Maryland, where she taught word processing and desktop publishing.
Laura was a very active volunteer throughout her life, having received service awards from the State of Maryland Department of Education, and Meals on Wheels at Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly, Maryland. Moving to Burlington, NC in 1998, she continued her love of volunteer work through the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and Twin Lakes Community. She held several positions including Correspondence Secretary on the Twin Lakes Community Auxiliary Board for five years, Fashion Show Chair, Publicity Chair, and contributed to TLC yard sales and bake sales.
Laura was a kind, loving, reserved woman who loved to let loose and laugh with family and friends, enjoyed playing card games and was an avid baker. She loved attending musicals and other performances, watching movies and enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including ceramics, crafts, and reading, especially mysteries and biographies of U.S. First Ladies and Presidents.
Laura was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, William Patrick Judge, her parents, her sister Jean, and an infant daughter, Mary Rebecca. Laura is survived by her daughter, Susan Judge of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2pm at Twin Lakes Community May-Foley Chapel in Burlington, NC at 3801 Wade Coble Drive. The family will receive friends in the reception area following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to www.twinlakescomm.org.
