Deshon Lee ManuelMay 4, 1975 ~ October 1, 2017 (age 42)
Deshon Lee Manuel was born in Greensboro, NC on May 4, 1975 to Ruby "Jeanie" Manuel & Johnnie Lee "BoBo" Canty. He was raised in the Greenfield community with his close-knit family; including his sisters Latecia Manuel, Hannah Manuel and his cousins James Manuel, Lee Manuel Jr, Latoya White, and Takiya White.
“Shon” was his Mother’s firstborn and Granny Ruby Manuel's first grandchild. He didn't go to school in jeans and t-shirts like most kids; he went to school dressed to impress in fresh JCPenney suits with flashy bowties. He was raised in the church and he loved the Lord. Shon became interested in music at a young age. He played the saxophone in high school then learned how to play a plethora of other instruments by ear with guitar, keyboard/piano, and drums being his favorites. He loved to learn new things! He was fluent in Vietnamese and Spanish and also spoke some Arabic, French, and Swahili; all of which he learned from friends. Shon would get excited with any opportunity to share his God-given talents with anyone he came in contact with. He never met a stranger. He loved making jokes, no matter how corny they were. He would burst out laughing so you would end up laughing too. He was definitely a "people person" and loved being the center of attention which was evident during his numerous live performances. He would perform anywhere and would share the stage with anybody. Shon was multi-talented: talented musician, singer, songwriter and he also earned his Cosmetology License from Regina’s College of Beauty in 2014.
Shon's proudest accomplishments were his beautiful daughters, Tierra and Shontera which he called them by their pet names - Angel Cupper Puffer Muffin Mittens & his Booshie Bear. Anyone who really knew Shon, recognized how proud he was of his girls and how happy he was that they looked just like him. Anytime he mentioned them, his face would light up with pride and joy. When he was with them, he was like a kid in a candy store!
Shon loved all of his family. He also had a few other things he loved: cereal (any flavor as long as it was sweet), candy (preferably the chewy kind like Starburst or Skittles), peanut butter (which he would just eat out of the jar with a spoon), Sanford & Son (which he watched over & over), Little Shop Of Horror and Lion King (his favorite VHS tapes), and animals (he had a pet snake, tarantula, squirrels, iguanas, and a dog).
The Lord needed Deshon for bigger and better missions and called him home on September 30, 2017. Deshon was loved & respected by many and touched so many countless lives. He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Ruby Manuel Floyd; father, Johnnie Lee Canty; wife, Melissa Lemmons Manuel; daughters, Tierra LeeAnn Manuel and Shontera Treasure Manuel; sisters, Latecia Manuel and Hannah Manuel; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and fans. He will surely be missed but we thank God for all of the wonderful memories & fantastic legacy he left behind.
