Welcome to the memorial page for

Zachary Brian Bumgarner

December 17, 1988 ~ December 30, 2017 (age 29)

The Piano Brothers

Zachary “Zack” Bumgarner, 29, departed this earthly world Saturday, December 30, 2017. He leaves behind a wife Kristen Lawson Bumgarner and three-year-old daughter Kinley Grace Bumgarner. He is also survived by his mother Maureen Bumgarner, father Brian Bumgarner, sisters Kelly Graven and Amy Bumgarner, and grandmother Pat Brody all of the Greensboro area.  Zack was born December 17, 1988 in Greensboro, North Carolina and grew up in a tight community surrounded by loving, supportive friends and family. His childhood years were happy.  Summer days were spent at Sedgefield Swim and Racquet Club enjoying swimming and tennis with friends. In the fall and the spring, he played soccer and baseball at Jamestown Youth League enjoying teamwork and building lifelong friendships. He continued his passion for sports throughout school playing soccer, football, baseball, and golf at Ragsdale High School. After graduation, he played on the inaugural baseball team at Guilford Technical College. He later attended Cape Fear Community College.   Zack always had a love of nature and the outdoors and began work with his father at Bumgarner Property Maintenance in 2009. Together, with hard work and dedication, they grew a successful, trusted company. Even at day’s end, Zack spent countless hours researching ways to advance their business and better serve their customers. He was recently enrolled at Guilford Technical College in the Turf Management program. Brian called Zack “his right-hand man,” and their father and son relationship grew into the most coveted respect one can have for another. They were best friends.  Zack was married to Kristen Lawson in 2016, and together they were raising a beautiful daughter, Kinley. Zack was a gentle soul who found joy and fulfillment in teaching and showing Kinley the beauties of nature. You could often find them reading and singing songs. Kinley was the brightest star in Zack’s life and often said that she was his biggest teacher.   Zack had a deep, entrusted love for family. Maureen says Zack was their “silent strength,” pulling them together with comfort and support despite his fight with his own demons. He often told her, “Thanks for believing in me.” Although he lost his fight with addiction, he grew strong in fellowship with the Lord and his fellow brothers of recovery.  Zack’s family stands united. In the days and years ahead, he will continue to be a light in their sorrow and grief reassuring them as always, “Go to sleep. God is awake.”
