Mariena (Knight) Bartley-Martin

March 3, 1955 ~ September 1, 2017 (age 62)

The Piano Brothers

Mariena Knight Bartley-Martin was born to the late James R. Knight & Larselle D. Knight-Wiley on March 3rd, 1955 and departed this life on September 1st, 2017. Mariena was blessed to have a second set of parents that influenced her life as well, which she called the late James Hughes & Bertha B. Hughes. Mariena completed her education through Greensboro City schools before starting her own family where she was married to the late Charles L. Bartley. That union came with three children. Mariena was known to most of her family and friends by the nickname Boo-Boo. Mariena enjoyed spending special time with family and friends which would include her frying some fresh fish and sharing many laughs and memories. She was a homemaker for many years, after a brief illness, she was determined not to allow herself to lose faith in God. She fought hard; she did not allow her sickness to change her personality. Everywhere she went she met a new friend, being she never met a stranger. She was given the gift of love and caring for others at a young age. When we think of a Boo-Boo we think of a mistake but we know that God doesn’t make any mistakes. Mariena was such a joy to be around. She loved her family and friends so much that she would at times give her last to them. She was a mother to many, not by blood, but by the the love that she gave from her heart. For many years she provided many seniors with companionship and transportation to various places. For those that knew Mariena knew she could strike up a conversation in person or on the phone that could last for hours. During her declining health she still thought of others before herself. Mariena always stood firm to her beliefs and always tried to include her heavenly father in her decision making. Her motto had became (blessed to be a blessing). As traumatic life events happened she did not allow herself to fall into a self-pity mode, she kept the faith and kept praising inspite of it all. Mariena was blessed with a listening ear that never betrayed the trust of those that shared their misfortunes. She knew that the way she was raised, that trust brought you a long way in life. She was a very special person that was loved by many and she loved almost everybody. Mariena is proceeded in death by her parents James and Larselle Knight, adopted parents James and Bertha Hughes, husband Charles Bartley, daughter & special friend Crystal A. Bartley, brothers Richard Hunter, Sherman Knight and William Davis. As she reunits with those loved ones that she lost she leaves to cherish memories with many including her son Christaine L. Bartley, daughter Hope N. Bartley, brother Raymond McDaniel, sisters Helen Knight, Jackie Knight-Lindsay and Brenda Knight-McBride. She called Sarah D. Howell her big sister as well. Her loved spread to three generations including grandchildren Crystal S. Bartley, Danielle L. Bartley, Devan JZ Thompson, Erica S Parker and Keyonah . Parker and great-grands Zi'Miyah Bartley & Raelynn Rustin. She shared a special relationship with childhood friends Rhonda Williams-Woods and Carolynn Anderson as well Sarah Davis her sister-in-law and host of family and friends that will greatly Miss Mariena (Boo-Boo) daily.
