Douglas Ross ParkerDecember 28, 1923 ~ July 6, 2017 (age 93)
Douglas Ross Parker, 93, of Friends Homes at Guilford, passed on from this life into the next phase of his journey on the morning of July 6th, 2017. Douglas was born in Mexico City on December 28, 1923, while his parents were on a Quaker mission to a school in rural Mexico, where they lived until 1928. His family eventually settled in Wilmington, Ohio, where he began his studies and career in education, which took him around the country until he and his wife Dolores settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where they raised their two children. Over the years he taught math, industrial arts, drafting, electronics, and computer science and enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, gardening and singing with friends and family and in various choirs. After a sojourn in Kentucky, he and Dolores retired to Greensboro, where their daughter had attended Guilford College. They found many friends at First Friends Meeting where they have been members, and more recently at Friends Homes. Douglas is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores Parker, of Friends Homes, his son Martin, of Washington DC, his daughter Debbie of Durham NC, and his sister Anabel Hunt, of Tucson AZ. A memorial service will be held at Friends Homes, Guilford on July 22, 2017 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to Friends Homes, First Friends Meeting or Hospice of Greensboro would be appreciated.
